A busy street in downtown Edmonton is about to close until the end of 2026

Commuters in downtown Edmonton will need to adjust their routes as 102nd Avenue between 107th Street and 102nd Street closes to vehicle traffic until the end of 2026.
The City of Edmonton says the full closure that spans five blocks will start on Monday, March 16, and is part of Valley Line West LRT construction.
During the closure, crews will build the Alex Decoteau Stop, remove sidewalks and roadways, complete underground utility work, install soil cells and tree pits, set up permanent streetlights, traffic signals, curbs, and paving, and lay track slab and rail.
The work will happen in multiple phases, with Phase 1 expected to last approximately 20 weeks.

During Phase 1, north-south traffic across 102nd Avenue will be maintained only on 105th Street. Pedestrian access will be maintained, though detours will be in place. The bike lanes along 102nd Avenue were temporarily relocated to 103rd Avenue last November.

“The full closure of 102nd Avenue will allow more work to be done in a shorter period of time, reduce the overall duration of traffic impacts and bring this area closer to its final permanent traffic configuration,” said the City of Edmonton.
Information on future phases will be released once details are finalized.
“Completing the roadwork in this area will mark a significant milestone for the Valley Line West project and benefit Edmontonians moving around the area.”
