A MASSIVE new aquatics centre has been proposed near Edmonton
A massive new aquatics centre is in the works for a community northeast of Edmonton, promising to bring a whole host of new recreational options to the region.
The proposed 52,000-square-foot aquatics centre in Fort Saskatchewan will be double the size of the city’s current Harbour Pool and, unlike the smaller layout of the existing space, would support multiple activities simultaneously.
Amenities proposed for the new facility include an eight-lane pool with a diving area, a leisure pool with amenities such as spray features, and a separate, warmer tot pool.
Preliminary concept renderings of the facility have been released, and final designs will be developed in the next phase of the project.

Other proposed new features include a hot tub, sauna, steam rooms, barrier-free change rooms, multipurpose rooms, and training/meeting rooms.

The current estimate for the project is $54 million, though the total will be refined once the city moves into the next phase of the project.
Construction could potentially start in 2026, according to Alberta Major Projects.
Harbour Pool would remain operational until the new facility was completed.
