Michelin-starred chef brings edomae-style omakase to Edmonton

This one is for the sushi lovers!

Last summer, MSSM opened its doors to their Edmonton location and introduced traditional Edomae sushi culture to the area. With a menu crafted by Michelin-starred Chef Masaki Saito and executed by chefs under his guidance, this experience is like no other.

Masaki Saito came to the Canadian culinary scene as a two-time two-starred Michelin chef, having received two stars in both Toronto and New York.

MSSM comes from the team who helped bring Tachi to life, a cherished, standing-only sushi haven in Toronto that closed in 2023. During the team’s run at Tachi, they received a Michelin Plate.

Under the guidance of Masaki Saito, this team offers traditional omakase at a more accessible price point without compromising on the experience.

For those unfamiliar with omakase, here’s a brief breakdown.

Omakase in Japanese directly translates to ā€œI’ll leave it up to you.” These chef-curated dinners are left completely in their hands and are most commonly associated with sushi courses.

Currently, MSSM is open every day except Sundays, serving both lunch and dinner. MSSM Edmonton offers a lunch omakase with 11 dishes, starting at $62.50, and a dinner omakase with 14 dishes, starting at $98.

Some dishes served in both omakases offered are the Pickled Radish Toro Handroll, the Marinated King Salmon, the Sea Bream, and Miso Soup.

The menu often changes based on the seasonality of ingredients.
