This Ukrainian kitchen is closing its downtown Edmonton location
Little DON’YA, a Ukrainian kitchen in downtown Edmonton, will be closing its doors this week.
Since the year began, restaurants located in Edmonton’s downtown core have been closing left and right, and Little DON’YA is the latest to join the list. After operating this location for just under two years, the restaurant announced its upcoming closure this past week.
“While we really wanted a central location, the reality is Edmonton’s downtown has changed, and as a responsible business, we recognize that we cannot compete with the ongoing construction, crime, and parking challenges in Edmonton’s downtown area,” reads the kitchen’s team on Instagram.

The last day for this downtown location is Friday, Sept. 11.
“This little spot has given us a few headaches, but it has also given us joy, filled with so many memories, celebrations, and events. We’ve met wonderful neighbours and fellow business owners, and thanks to our amazing and diverse downtown customers, we’ve gained valuable insights into what Canadians appreciate and love about Ukrainian food,” adds the team. “This knowledge will help DON’YA grow bigger and better in the future.”
This week, on the Thursday before the closure, the kitchen will be hosting Ukrainian singer Maria Kuzmenko from 11:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. for one last celebration.
You will still be able to find your favourite DON’YA products and dishes at locations like the Italian Centre Shop, Sunterra, North Central Co-op, Public Exchange, Meals on Wheels, and more.
