Edmonton Oilers fans have made quite the impression on Kris Knoblauch.

The 46-year-old bench boss was glowing about the fan support the team receives in Edmonton on Tuesday, one day after the Oilers took a commanding 3-1 series lead over the Vegas Golden Knights.

“The atmosphere in Edmonton is unbelievable,” Knoblauch said at a press conference in Edmonton before flying to Las Vegas.

And he’s not just talking about the crowd inside Rogers Place either.

“It starts in the afternoon and seeing what’s going on around the rink or downtown, or even away from downtown. Seeing everyone in their jerseys and shirts, and the Oilers flags waving off cars and houses and stuff like that. And then when you get in the building, it’s electric, right from the national anthems and the crowd getting into it. The costumes, and how everyone’s dressed up.”

“The atmosphere, the cheering, you hear how loud it is. And it tops off with the songs, the crowd getting involved and singing. I remember last year, there were a couple moments where I remember that.”

Knoblauch referenced Game 4 of the Stanley Cup Final last year, when the Oilers staved off elimination with an 8-1 win.

“I remember what a good atmosphere it was. And everyone was having so much fun. There was no anxiety, there was no stress, it was just ‘let’s have fun with this win right now.'”

He approves of the atmosphere this spring, too. And why not? The Oilers are 4-1 at Rogers Place in the playoffs.

“Hearing the crowd get involved and have as much fun and enjoy the game the players are playing and performed that night.

“It’s a great atmosphere in our rink.”
