An Edmonton coffee house just announced its upcoming closure
Island Brew Coffee House just announced it’d be closing its doors this week in Edmonton after years of curating a community-driven coffee house.
On 124th Street, you’ll be able to find Island Brew Coffee House, a local community cafe with a Caribbean take on its food and drinks. It’s been around for a few years now in Edmonton, and this past Monday, Sept. 21, the cafe made a post across its social media sharing the shocking news.

“A couple of years ago, we opened our doors on 124th Street with a simple hope: to create a space where Caribbean warmth could meet the Edmonton community, one coffee at a time,” reads the beginning of the cafe’s Instagram post. “What we found was so much more than we ever imagined.”
In the post, the team goes on to empathize with the struggles of maintaining a small business in Edmonton, and they could be alluding to the ongoing issues businesses are having in the city.
Despite the community support they’ve had over the years, this cafe’s chapter is officially coming to a close. The last day of operation will be this week on Wednesday, Sept. 23.
“To everyone who stopped by for a coconut latte, stayed for the conversation, supported an artist, or sat down to study, thank you. You are the reason Island Brew ever felt like a community hub and not just a coffee shop. That was always the point, and you made it real,” the team wrote on Instagram.
The team invites guests to grab a cup of their favourites before the cafe shuts its doors for good. So, if you can, get some friends together and enjoy it while their doors are still open.
