Reimagined Van Gogh experience coming to Edmonton this spring

As recommended by health officials, if you choose to participate in events outside of your home, please adhere to COVID-19 health and safety measures, including proper physical distancing, mask-wearing, and frequent handwashing. If you are sick, please stay home.

Vincent Van Gogh is an icon – both for his famous paintings and for the infamous cutting off of his own ear.

The artist lives on through his work and in our memories, still known for many of his classic paintings.

The Imagine Van Gogh exhibit explores a new way to experience old favourites like “Sunflowers,” “The Starry Night,” and a number of the Dutch artist’s self-portraits.

The completely immersive exhibit, seen across Europe and in Montreal and Winnipeg, is now coming to Alberta.

Opening this spring at the Edmonton EXPO Centre, Imagine Van Gogh brings visitors the chance to get up close and personal with the artist’s work through larger-than-life projections of his paintings.

“Wander amongst giant projections of the artist’s paintings,” describes Imagine Van Gogh’s website, “[And be] swept away by every brushstroke, detail, painting medium and colour.”

Projections cover the walls and, in some places, even the floors of the exhibit, giving visitors a truly 360° view. The art has been paired with carefully chosen music to complete this experience of the senses.

Discover more than 200 of Van Gogh’s paintings, including some of his most famous works, created between 1888 and 1890 in Provence, Arles, and Auvers-sur-Oise.
