Ex-Edmonton Oilers goalie announces retirement at just 29
The final NHL game of Connor Ingram’s career came wearing an Edmonton Oilers sweater.
That last start came in Game 6 of the playoffs earlier this year, one in which the Oilers were eliminated by the Anaheim Ducks. Despite the disappointing ending, many felt Ingram had played enough to warrant another contract from the Oilers.
That never wound up coming to fruition, as the Oilers instead traded for Devon Levi and signed Frederik Andersen, leaving Ingram waiting on the free-agent market. Unfortunately, no teams came calling, prompting the 29-year-old to announce his retirement via Instagram on Friday evening.

“Don’t be sad it’s over, be happy it happened,” Ingram wrote. “Thanks hockey, I owe ya.”
Shortly after Ingram’s surprising announcement, Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman confirmed that he is indeed hanging up the skates. Friedman also added that the Saskatoon, Saskatchewan native plans to go back to school for psychology to “use what he learns to help others.”

Ingram has been open about his mental health struggles, revealing that he was diagnosed with obsessive-compulsive disorder and depression in 2021.
Ingram logged 134 games at the NHL level, 50 of which came in a starting role with the Arizona Coyotes during the 2023-24 season. He was acquired by the Oilers ahead of the 2025-26 campaign and wound up making 32 regular season appearances, posting a 2.60 GAA along with a .899 SV% and a 16-10-3 record.
