When Devon Levi takes the crease for the Edmonton Oilers, he’s going to be doing so in style.

The 24-year-old revealed his new mask on Thursday afternoon, and it’s one of the more unique designs you’ll see.

Painted by Sylvie Marsolais and Alexandre Mathys, the mask prominently features the Oilers’ blue and orange colours. It also features an orange piece running down the centre of the cage, which is quite different from what fans are accustomed to seeing.

Many fans have voiced their appreciation for the fact that the mask is “less busy” than many others. The simpler design has drawn plenty of positive reactions.

“Too many masks are so busy and over-complicated (unlike the classics of Brodeur, Belfour, and Habs Roy). This is really nice and clean,” one fan wrote on X.

Rather than fill the mask with little designs throughout, Levi instead took inspiration from an Oilers legend.

Levi’s mask bears a striking resemblance to the one worn by Grant Fuhr during his time in Edmonton.

Fuhr is widely regarded as the best goalie in Oilers franchise history and played a vital role in four of the organization’s five Stanley Cup championships.

While Levi may never reach the heights Fuhr did, the Oilers have high hopes for the young goaltender.

The 6-foot, 192-pound netminder was acquired by the Oilers from the Buffalo Sabres this offseason with the hope that he can develop into their future No. 1 option. He’s appeared in just 39 NHL games so far, but still has plenty of untapped potential.

Levi is expected to be part of a three-goalie tandem this season, sharing duties with Frederik Andersen and Tristan Jarry. That said, he could be thrust into a starting role early in the season, as Andersen is expected to be out until late October with a lower-body injury.
