Snow won't stand a chance with a lovely Edmonton forecast on tap soon

Waking up to a dump of snow in Edmonton this morning might have been a shock to the system, but luckily the forecast is hinting that it won’t be sticking around for long.

Edmonton won’t see as much snow over the next 24 hours as our pals up north saw last weekend, but it’s still a bummer to get hit by a good amount of flakes before Halloween even arrives.

Before you get out the snow boots to go along with your Halloween costume, the latest seven-day forecast from Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) for Edmonton is looking pretty dang good; we just have to struggle through the next couple of days.

Looking at the forecast for Edmonton today, a high of -2°C was called; however, an “abnormal temperature trend” will bring the temperature down to -3°C by this afternoon, with a windchill of -9°C. Around two cm of snow is expected.

Light snow is forecast into tonight and ending before morning, with about two cm expected. A low of -3°C with a windchill near -9°C is forecast overnight.

Tomorrow, Thursday, Oct. 29, will bring a high of -1°C and overcast skies. A windchill of -7°C is expected, with an overnight low of -8°C.

Edmonton will break above the freezing mark for daytime highs come Friday, Oct. 30, and it’s off to the races with the temperature rising to 4°C and plenty of sunshine for Halloween.

The start of November is looking pretty dazzling for YEG, with the peak of the heat arriving on Monday, Nov. 2, with the daytime high forecast to reach 8°C. When you do the math between the overnight low Friday night and the high on Monday, that’s a difference of a whopping 16 degrees.

According to ECCC, the average daytime high for this time of year in Edmonton is 5°C, while the average low is -4°C.
