The Ardrossan Farmers Market east of Edmonton says it won’t be returning for its 2027 season, citing a lack of volunteers to keep it operational.
According to a post by the Ardrossan Recreation & Agricultural Society (ARAS), the board had been looking for volunteers to join its farmers market committee for two years but received little interest.
“Without a committee to lead the market, the board has done its best to keep it going. However, this is not sustainable given the many hours directors already contribute to other society activities,” the post explained, adding that the group that initially launched the market had also moved on.
The Ardrossan Farmers Market was run by ARAS, a volunteer-run organization that has served the community since 1945. The market launched in 2019 and ran Tuesday evenings from early June to late September.
“Thank you to all vendors, patrons, and volunteers who supported the market since 2019. Your involvement meant so much.”

But while the farmers market won’t go forward in 2027, ARAS said it plans on renewing its farmers market registration and meet government requirements to maintain that status. This would keep the door open for a 2028 return if new volunteers were to come forward and establish a committee.
“As always, we welcome collaborations and new initiatives. Together, we can combine ARAS’s resources with your ideas and energy to keep Ardrossan vibrant.”
