Driver clocked going 112 km/h over speed limit on Anthony Henday Drive
Peace officers just outside of Edmonton say a driver was clocked going more than 110 kilometres an hour over the posted speed limit on Anthony Henday Drive over the weekend.
In a Facebook post made on Tuesday, Strathcona County stated that traffic safety remained a top priority for Strathcona County Enforcement Services from Aug. 1 to 9, as long weekend traffic and favourable weather brought more motorists to local roadways.
During that period, enforcement officers issued 955 violations, including a ticket to one motorist going 112 km/h over the posted speed limit.
Daily Hive reached out to Strathcona County regarding that incident and was told by RCMP and Enforcement Services that on Sunday, Aug. 9, a Strathcona County Peace Officer intercepted a Ford Mustang travelling 212 km/h southbound on Highway 216, which is a posted 100 km/h zone, near the Sherwood Park Freeway. The driver was issued a fine of $421 for expired registration and a mandatory court appearance for excessive speed.
Another high speeder was clocked on Saturday, Aug. 1, when a Strathcona County Peace Officer issued an excessive speeding ticket to a motorcyclist who was observed travelling 185 km/h in a posted 100 km/h zone on Highway 16. The rider was issued a mandatory court appearance for the speed, as well as several citations for equipment modifications.
Penalties for speeds of this magnitude may include substantial fines, licence suspensions, or a combination of both.
“Officers also intercepted and removed eight impaired drivers from local roadways. The enforcement efforts were aimed at reducing risky driving behaviours and improving safety for everyone travelling throughout Strathcona County,” the county’s social media post added.
