The Edmonton Oilers’ newest addition appears to be close to making his 2025-26 season debut.
It was a puzzling offseason for Jack Roslovic, who figured to be in line for a nice payday after a 22-goal, 39-point 2024-25 campaign with the Carolina Hurricanes. Instead, he went unsigned throughout the entire summer and training camp, before agreeing to a one-year, $1.5-million contract with the Oilers midway through their season opener against the Calgary Flames.
It’s unclear as to where Roslovic will slide into the Oilers lineup, though there have been plenty of rumblings that he will get a look in the top six. What is known, however, is what jersey number he will be wearing.
Based on the Oilers website, the right-shot forward will don No. 28. It’s different than the No. 96 he’s worn during stints with the Hurricanes, New York Rangers, and Columbus Blue Jackets. He did, however, wear No. 28 during his first few NHL seasons with the Winnipeg Jets. No. 96 would have been unavailable in Edmonton, of course, as it belongs to defenceman Jake Walman.
No. 28 only became recently available, as it belonged to Connor Brown during his two seasons with the Oilers. Brown left the organization via free agency, signing a four-year deal with the New Jersey Devils.
What made Roslovic’s signing so interesting was that the 28-year-old had reportedly turned down a contractĀ from the Oilers during the offseason. That contract was said to be a multi-year offer.
It remains to be seen when Roslovic will make his Oilers debut, though they do play this Saturday at Rogers Place versus the Vancouver Canucks. They will then head out on a five-game road trip beginning on Tuesday that will see them go up against the New York Rangers, New York Islanders, New Jersey Devils, Detroit Red Wings, and the Ottawa Senators.
