Roslovic turned down opportunity to join Edmonton Oilers: report

Jack Roslovic continues to remain on the free-agent market, though it’s not necessarily due to a lack of interest.

There has been chatter about a number of Canadian teams that’ve expressed interest in Roslovic, most notably the Vancouver Canucks and Toronto Maple Leafs. As it turns out, they aren’t the only teams north of the border who have had dialogue with the 28-year-old, as Pierre LeBrun of The Athletic has reported that the Edmonton Oilers went as far as to offer the right-shot forward a contract.

“I do believe there was an offer from the Edmonton Oilers at some point, but Roslovic, 28, turned it down,” LeBrun wrote. “He has since switched agents. He’s now with Justin Duberman.”

LeBrun didn’t mention when the Oilers offered Roslovic the deal, but said the former Carolina Hurricanes forward, coming off of a one-year contract, was looking for term this time around. He’s coming off of a season in which he tied his career high in goals with 22, while also adding 17 helpers in 81 games with the ‘Canes.

Roslovic has the ability to play down the middle and on the wing. With the Oilers, given that they have a number of centre options, one would assume that he would likely have played on the wing in the top nine, helping add to some scoring depth following the departures of forwards such as Evander Kane, Connor Brown, Corey Perry, Jeff Skinner, and Viktor Arvidsson.

Despite holding out for term, not accepting a contract from the Oilers looks like it may have been a mistake for Roslovic, who is still sitting at home without a deal while all 32 NHL teams have begun training camp.
