Edmonton's HUGE new events district has been approved: here's how it may look

Edmonton City Council has approved a major agreement with Oilers Entertainment Group (OEG) to accelerate development in the ICE District, including a new public event park, a large housing community, and early work on Exhibition Lands.
Backed by the Government of Alberta, the project aims to boost downtown housing, public spaces, and economic activity.
- A new indoor/outdoor Public Event Park in the ICE District
- A 2,500-unit community in the Village at ICE District
- Demolition of the Coliseum and work to advance the early stages of the Exhibition Lands development
Edmonton city manager Eddie Robar called the agreement a “huge step forward” for downtown vibrancy and economic growth.
The $250-million event park will host community events, many at low or no cost, while attracting visitors and supporting the local economy.
Preliminary work on the Village at ICE District, costing $ 68.2 million, is expected to attract approximately $1 billion in private investment, while introducing a new downtown park and enhancing the streetscape.
The City will fund its share through revenues from the Downtown Community Revitalization Levy and existing capital budgets, with provincial contributions secured via grant agreements. Council’s approval now allows the projects to move forward.
Earlier this year, the City, the province, and OEG signed a Memorandum of Understanding and shared renderings of the planned district.
