Edmonton's new bike park in the river valley opens next month

Edmonton is well-known for its large mountain biking community, and a new bike park in the heart of the city, years in the making, finally has an opening date.
Queen Elizabeth Park is the brand-new home to the Edmonton Bike Park, a first-of-its-kind mountain biking facility that provides a dedicated and safe space for riders to develop their skills on flow trails, jump lines, and skills areas.
The grand opening date is planned for Saturday, July 25.
“This milestone represents nearly a decade of work by volunteers, partners, designers, builders, and supporters who have helped move this project forward,” the Edmonton Mountain Bike Alliance wrote in its latest update.
The park came together as a result of volunteer builders working alongside professional companies such as Peak Play and Cabin Works.

The design incorporates lessons learned from other successful bike parks across North America, including destinations in Whistler, Moab, Bentonville, and several Alberta communities such as Hinton, Nordegg, Canmore, Valemount, and Grande Prairie.

The project was funded by a $612,000 grant through the Government of Alberta’s Community Facility Enhancement Program (CFEP). The total budget is $1.24 million, with $407,000 from a City of Edmonton grant and $177,000 in private donations covering the remainder.
