A nightly closure begins on a major bridge in Edmonton next week

If your travel plans involve crossing the river in the coming weeks, you’ll want to take note of a major bridge closure for one of Edmonton’s most iconic landmarks.
Beginning April 28, the High Level Bridge will close nightly from 9:30 p.m. to 6 a.m. (9:30 a.m. on weekends) for construction, according to the City’s website. The closure includes the east sidewalk of the bridge and is expected to last until May 10.
Any schedule changes will be updated in future notices.
The High Level Bridge is one of four major bridges in Edmonton identified under the Bridge Renewal Program. Several key crossings over the North Saskatchewan River are set to begin maintenance this year to extend their lifespan and prevent unplanned closures.
In addition to the 112-year-old High Level Bridge, the Low Level Bridge, Dawson Bridge, and Wellington Bridge are also due for maintenance in the months ahead.
It’s shaping up to be a busy construction season, especially in central Edmonton. With work already underway in areas like Stony Plain Road and 124th Street, you’ll want to plan your routes in advance and pack some patience for the road!
