A long-running City of Edmonton program celebrating the creativity and hard work of local gardeners has been cut after 25 years.
According to a post on the City’s website, as part of the 2024 fall supplemental Operating Budget adjustment and following budget decisions, both the Front Yards in Bloom program and the Edmonton In Bloom Awards have been discontinued in 2025.
“These programs have been valuable to our community and we want to acknowledge the positive impact they have made to the lives of many Edmontonians,” the city’s website says.
“The Front Yards in Bloom program was a success due to the dedication and support from its volunteers over the years, as well as dedicated gardeners throughout the city. We thank you all for strengthening Edmontonās community spirit and beautifying our neighbourhoods.”
The City also acknowledged the contributions of its partners, including the Edmonton Horticultural Society and the Canadian Union of Postal Workers, for their vital roles in the program’s success over the past 25 years.

Front Yards in Bloom began in 1999 as a partnership between the Edmonton Horticultural Society, the Canadian Union of Postal Workers, and the City. As Edmonton grew, the program grew with it, expanding its nomination categories to better recognize a wider range of green spaces and gardeners.
Categories included balconies, edible yards, general yards, natural spaces, public spaces, and tiny yards. Thousands of displays were recognized over the two and a half decades.
The City also thanked program sponsors for their time and donations supporting Front Yards in Bloom.
