The Edmonton Elks are quickly proving that when you win games, fans will pay money to go and watch.

It’s been some trying times for the Elks in recent years, as they haven’t made the playoffs since 2019. Their struggles resulted in lesser crowds over the years at Commonwealth Stadium, but that is changing in a hurry.

Expecting a crowd of more than 30,000 this Saturday versus the Saskatchewan Roughriders, the Elks will be opening up select sections in the East upper field. It will mark the first time that they’ve had any portion of their upper bowl open since the 2023 season.

Earlier in the week, the Elks told Daily Hive that they have been selling more than 1,700 per day for this weekend’s outing. They are expecting it to smash their season-best attendance of 20,020, which came on July 17 against the BC Lions. Should they surpass 30,000, it will mark their first time doing so since Sept. 27Ā  of last year versus the Roughriders.

The Elks have been arguably the biggest positive surprise of the CFL this season, sitting atop the West Division with a 6-1 record. They’re also a perfect 3-0 at Commonwealth Stadium.

After this weekend, the Elks have five regular season games remaining at Commonwealth. Should they continue their strong play, attendance is likely to continue surging. Those numbers will only increase further should they snap their six-season playoff drought, which is looking very likely thanks to their strong start.
