Edmonton Elks expecting biggest Commonwealth Stadium crowd of the season
The Edmonton Elks have been the class of the CFL this season, and fans are starting to take notice.
After a thrilling 36-34 victory over the Saskatchewan Roughriders last week in Regina, the Elks will be hosting a much-anticipated rematch at Commonwealth Stadium on Saturday. The team is tied with the Montreal Alouettes for the top spot in the CFL standings.
With a sparkling 6-1 record, local interest in the team has skyrocketed, and that could result in the biggest Edmonton crowd of the season.
The Elks told Daily Hive that they have been averaging around 1,700 tickets sold per day in the week before the Roughriders rematch and are on pace to have over 30,000 fans in attendance for Saturday.

That would be by far the biggest crowd at an Elks game this season, with the previous-best coming against the BC Lions on July 17 when 20,020 fans packed into the stadium. It would also be the first time that the Elks have had a crowd of over 30,000 fans since welcoming inĀ 30,053 fans last season in a September 27 matchup also against Saskatchewan.
The Elks haven’t eclipsed the 33,000 mark since the 2021 season.
This game against the Roughriders will certainly hold the most meaning for the Elks in quite some time. A win for Edmonton would place them first overall in the entire CFL, surpassing a strong Alouettes team.
It would also buy the team a bit of breathing room from the Roughriders, who currently sit second in the West Division with a 4-2 record.
The Elks have been an unlikely powerhouse throughout this season and are now on pace to break a six-year playoff drought. If they keep it up, Edmonton could soon be playing for their first championship in over a decade when the 113th Grey Cup arrives in Calgary this November.
