Ever wanted to be part of the Edmonton Oilers analytics department? Well, now is your chance to apply.
It appears the Oilers are making a concerted effort to build up their analytics department, with three new jobs being posted by the NHL club. Unlike most roles within the team, it appears Edmonton is doing an open call for applicants to apply.
The roles that are needed include a senior data scientist, a hockey data engineer, and a full-stack developer. All three of these jobs would work “to help build leading-edge hockey insights.”
Interested applicants can apply to all three jobs on the Oilers’ official website.

Though it may sound enticing to work for the Oilers in a role that could impact the direction of the team, these aren’t jobs that any fan can apply for and expect to be considered for. Edmonton has laid out extensive qualifications for each role that include bachelor’s or master’s degrees in relevant fields, as well as multiple years of experience.
On top of that, the team is obviously looking for applicants with a vast knowledge of hockey.
There was no mention of the expected salary for each role, though each job posting made sure to point out that the team will be offering a “Competitive salary and benefits package.”
Michael Parkatti, the Oilers’ senior director of data and analytics, also posted a callout to interested applicants on social media.
“As the name implies, weāre building the next generation of Hockey Analytics & Technology,” Parkatti wrote. “Weāre looking for hockey obsessives, creative thinkers, and experienced tech professionals.
“What we create truly does have an impact on internal decision-making and the future of the team!”
On top of Parkatti, the Oilers’ analytics team also includes CapFriendly co-founder Dominik Zrim as the director of hockey strategy, David Evanochko as a lead solutions architect, Justin Mahe as the director of hockey analysis, and Shaun Mahe as the manager of hockey systems and design.
It’s not every day these types of jobs pop up for an NHL team, and it will be interesting which applicants the Oilers eventually end up sticking with.
