Connor Brown gives hilarious details on Edmonton Oilers cabinet prank

The Edmonton Oilers are four wins away from the Stanley Cup, but they’re making sure to keep things light.

One of the players doing his part to make that happen is Connor Brown. The 31-year-old has been sidelined with an injury for the last two games of the Western Conference Final, but still found a way to encourage his teammates.

In the moments before Game 4 against the Dallas Stars, Brown played a hilarious prank on his teammates, jumping out of a cabinet to announce the starting lineup. It was a great way to hype up the team, and it helped keep everyone loose before a big game.

On Sunday morning, Brown was asked about the prank and revealed some of the details behind it.

“Our video guy [Erik Elenz] did that during the regular season. We had a little winning streak, and he was coming up with stuff,” Brown said with a smile. “I took that one out of his book, thought it would get the boys going a bit.

“I was in there at like the eight-minute mark, so it’s like 20 minutes [in the cabinet].”

Spending 20 minutes hiding in a cabinet is some serious commitment to the bit, but Brown told reporters that it was actually quite comfortable. He was able to scroll on his phone and said there were some accommodations in there as well.

“There’s a little room there, I had my phone, a little cushion, so it wasn’t too bad,” Brown laughed. “I was texting [assistant equipment manager Brad Harrison], he was giving me the lineups I had to memorize. He was giving me a play-by-play out there.

“Clearly not [claustrophobic].”

Though he wasn’t skating on a regular line at Sunday’s practice, both he and head coach Kris Knoblauch have confirmed that Brown is expected to play in Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Final on Wednesday night.
