Charles Barkley called Edmonton one of his favourite cities

Edmonton is apparently high up on NBA legend Charles Barkley’s list of favourite Canadian cities.

The Hall of Fame basketball player appeared on the Sportsnet broadcast of last night’s Game 2 of the Stanley Cup Final between the Edmonton Oilers and Florida Panthers. When he wasn’t accidentally dropping F-bombs live on air, he was dishing out some praise to Canadian cities.

He revealed to Sportsnet reporter Kyle Bukauskas that the Alberta capital is one of his favourite cities.

“Toronto, Vancouver, and Edmonton are three of my favourite cities in the world,” Barkley said on the broadcast.

The former Phoenix Suns star has been on the Oilers bandwagon for just about the entire postseason, alongside fellow NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal. Barkley received a signed jersey from Oilers superstar Leon Draisaitl when they crossed paths with the team in Dallas during both the NHL and NBA Western Conference finals.

Barkley says that Draisaitl’s jersey will be hung up in his house and will be in an elite group of two other jerseys he currently has hanging.

“I only got two jerseys in my house, I got [former NFL Star] Brian Dawkins and [former NHL goaltender] Ron Hextall, and Leon is going to be in my house,” Barkley explained.

Even though he listed it as one of his favourite cities in the entire world, it doesn’t appear that Oilers fans should expect to see Barkley in the Ice District any time soon, as he did say it was a bit too far for him to travel.

Whether he is there or not, it’s nice to see such a prominent athlete giving Edmonton some love. Though the Alberta capital has built up a reputation as being one of the coldest cities in North America to have a professional sports team, it does provide quite a bit of beauty with a scenic river valley.

Now the Oilers will have to make good on the show of support and bring home the Stanley Cup.
