Kind Ice Cream‘s sidekick spot has reopened for the season, and we couldn’t be more excited.

If you aren’t familiar, last year, Kind Ice Cream started a new way to serve the Edmonton community. Bestie is a summer-only spot which started last year, run out of a solar-powered shipping container at Crestwood Community Hall.

Bestie reopened last weekend, and it’s now here to stay for the summer.

The shop runs entirely off the grid, powered by solar panels and a high-efficiency battery system that keeps the ice cream perfectly cold, even on the hottest days. Bestie uses minimal propane as a backup, but its goal is to be 100 per cent solar-powered for the entire summer.

Currently, this location serves scoops in nine familiar Kind Ice Cream flavours the community knows and loves, like Birthday Cake, Chocolate Milk, and its Real Deal Strawberry.

There’s also been the return of the exclusive, and ever so popular, Bubblegum flavour. The team mixes delicious tutti fruity ice cream (made from scratch) and then adds in pieces of classic bubble gum (which aren’t made from scratch).

As of now, this location is open every day. On weekdays, it’s open from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m., and on weekends, it’s open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. No matter what day of the week it is, summer is always a great time for a good pint of ice cream.

If you’re looking to support your community and receive an amazing treat in response, there’s no reason why you shouldn’t stop by Bestie this summer. And make sure to keep an eye out for its closing date at the end of the season — you won’t want to miss out on these delectable desserts.
