
It’s been a bumpy spring for many parts of Alberta, and the snow isn’t done yet, with up to 20 centimetres in the forecast for some areas this week.
We were warned late last month about how the weather in April was shaping up for Alberta, and spring may be taking a backseat at times over the next few months, too.
Looking at the Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) Significant Weather Outlook, portions of northern and western Alberta are at risk of seeing snow on Wednesday, April 22.
The highest snowfall totals will be in northeastern Alberta, with areas like Fort McMurray and Cold Lake at risk of seeing 10 to 20 centimetres. Areas in the Rockies, like Banff and Jasper National Park, along with some of the Foothills, may see 10 to 15 centimetres of snow.
Wind will also be a factor for sections of southern Alberta on Wednesday, with wind gusts up to 90 kilometres an hour east of Calgary and in Medicine Hat and Lethbridge.

ECCC Significant Weather Outlook
The outlook for Thursday, April 23, shows a tiny sliver of northeastern Alberta seeing the chance of 10 to 15 centimetres of snow, with parts of central and southern Alberta also under the gun of wind gusts up to 90 kilometres an hour.
It’s sure going to be gross for our friends in Saskatchewan and Manitoba on Thursday, with heavier snowfall totals on the way there.

ECCC Significant Weather Outlook
The risk of snowfall events in Alberta’s two largest cities is apparent in their forecasts, and it is shaping up to be a pretty gross work week and weekend in some areas.
The seven-day forecast for Edmonton is a wet one starting tonight, with showers tonight and tomorrow, before a period of snow hits on Thursday, April 23. Periods of snow and flurries are in the cards for YEG all the way until Sunday, April 26. Bundle up out there, folks.

The seven-day forecast for Calgary is less snow-filled than in Edmonton; however, snow pops up multiple times in the city over the coming days.
The first mention of the chance of flurries is on Thursday night, with a 60 per cent chance of rain showers or flurries and a low of -3°C. A high of zero is forecast from Friday, April 24, to Sunday, April 26, with the risk ranging from flurries to snow during that time frame.
