Alberta sees 45 new coronavirus cases, no new deaths

An update from the Province of Alberta has supplied new info on coronavirus cases in the province.

According to Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Deena Hinshaw, there have been 45 new cases over the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of known cases to 7,781.

However, of that total, only 532 are still active.

Hinshaw also noted that there are a total of 37 coronavirus-related hospitalizations.

The province states that the number is considered low and the number of ICU admissions remains at six.

There were no new deaths over the past 24 hours, leaving the total coronavirus-related deaths to 153 in Alberta.

Of those deaths, 112 were in the Calgary zone, 16 in the north zone, 14 in the Edmonton zone, 10 in the South zone, and one in the Central zone.

Hinshaw announced that there has been a new outbreak in Alberta at the Misericordia Community Hospital in Edmonton, with six patients and two staff members testing positive for the virus.

To date, over 400,000 tests have been completed in the province, over 7,000 of which were completed over the past 24 hours.
