Alberta government is hiring in Edmonton and some jobs pay over $250K

If you are looking for a career change, the Alberta government is hiring for loads of jobs in Edmonton right now, and some come with seriously high salaries.

We took a stroll through the Province’s online jobs posting, finding many that paid over $100,000 a year, including one that had a yearly salary of more than $250,000.

Here are a few we rounded up that might pique your interest if you’re in the market for a new gig.

Director, Strategic Implementation

What: The Strategic Implementation Director is accountable for the delivery of strategic initiatives and mandate items for the Capital Planning Sector. This includes taking the lead on emergent capital priorities not captured in existing processes and procedures (e.g., pilot programs, bringing novel, one-of-a-kind, or exploratory concepts into operations). As head of the Strategic Implementation Branch, the Director is also accountable for leading alternative project delivery and funding activities such as P3s for the sector.

The Director provides direction to the branch and is a member of the Sector’s Management Team. Strong working relationships and collaboration are maintained with business units in the ministry and across Government to establish new and innovative approaches to strategic initiatives, mandate items, and alternative project delivery and funding activities. The position works with a variety of internal and external stakeholders, including other ministry staff, partner ministries, and contractors.

Salary: $4,274.26 to $5,427.68 bi-weekly ($111,558 to $141,662/year)

Analyst, Measures and Risk

What: The Measures and Risk Analyst serves as a ministry-wide expert on performance measurement and risk management and has a key role in communicating the organization’s performance through public reporting. The position is relied on by senior and executive management across the Ministry for expertise, guidance, and advice in the area of performance measurement and risk management.

Salary: $2,626.89 to $3,448.73 bi-weekly ($68,561 to $90,011/year)

Executive Director, Lands Policy and Programs

What: Reporting to the Assistant Deputy Minister of Lands, the Executive Director, Lands Policy and Programs will provide strategic direction and leadership to deliver lands policy and programs throughout the province, including management and development of public land, remediation, reclamation, brownfield redevelopment policy and legislation. You will administer the development of programs and grants focused on environmental outcomes associated with wetland replacement, watershed restoration, and conservation.

Salary: $5,082.46 to $6,679.30 bi-weekly  ($132,652 to $174,329/year)

Public Lands Appeal Coordinator

What: The Public Lands Appeal Coordinator serves as Chair of the Public Lands Appeal Board (PLAB) under the Public Lands Administration Regulation (PLAR), oversees the fair and efficient resolution of appeals related to public land decisions. In this role, you’ll do things like administering all aspects of the appeals process, ensuring compliance with legislation, natural justice, and procedural fairness, and developing and implementing policies, procedures, and business plans to support the Board’s mandate.

Salary: $4,274.26 to $5,427.68 bi-weekly ($111,558 to $141,662/year)

Senior Legislative Counsel

What: Reporting to the Deputy Chief Legislative Counsel and Registrar of Regulations, your primary responsibility will be to provide advice and mentorship to legislative drafters to assist the Alberta Government and its Ministries in achieving their legislative objectives. Additional duties involve drafting complex bills and regulations in accordance with Legislative Counsel Office standards and performing related legal services.

Salary: $8,562.77 to $9,787.62 bi-weekly ($223,488 to $255,456/year)

Director, iGaming Policy

What: Reporting to the Executive Director, iGaming Policy you will provide expert policy advice to senior and executive leadership, the Deputy Ministry, and Minister on matters related to the legislative and policy frameworks for online gambling (iGaming) in Alberta. Duties in this role include guiding the development of iGaming policies that align with the government’s vision, ensuring they meet the needs of both the industry and the public, and overseeing revenue modelling, the development of key regulatory frameworks, and legislative processes that have a direct impact on Alberta’s economy and residents.

Salary: $4,274.26 to $5,427.68 bi-weekly ($111,558 to $141,662/year)

Curriculum Consultant, French Immersion Language Arts & Literature

What: Reporting directly to the Director, French Education Branch, the Curriculum Consultant, French Immersion Language Arts and Literature (FILAL) manages complex curriculum projects. The Curriculum Consultant, French Language Arts and Literature uses their advanced knowledge of French language learning to lead projects that support the operations and overall functioning of the branch with regard to French language curriculum. This person uses their research, analysis, and project management abilities as well as their high level of bilingualism to produce curriculum and supporting documents.

Salary: $3,199.90 to $4,282.79 bi-weekly ($83,517 to $111,780/year)

Toxicology Technologist

What: The role’s duties include conducting toxicology analysis to detect, identify and accurately quantify alcohol, drugs and other toxins in biological (ante-mortem and/or post-mortem) samples and occasionally drug paraphernalia material to determine their direct and indirect involvement in fatalities under investigation.

You’ll also be responsible for extracting and purifying drugs and other toxins from blood, tissues and paraphernalia, identifying and quantifying drugs, drug metabolites and other toxins by interpreting liquid and gas chromatography and mass spectrometry chromatograms.

Salary: ​$2,513.34 to $3,310.25 bi-weekly ($65,598 to $86,397/year)

Managers, Auto Insurance Reform Implementation

What: The Government of Alberta is hiring three jobs in this posting, including a Manager, Protocols and Consumer Support (MPC), Manager, Strategic Relations (MSR), and Manager, Implementation Policy (MIP).

Salary: $3,241.74 to $4,362.44 bi-weekly ($84,609 to $113,860/year)

Statute Administrator

What: Reporting to the Manager of Market and Industry Standards, you will be the regulatory and subject matter expert on designated/delegated legislative and/or administrative regulatory frameworks. As the Statute Administrator you will develop, administrate, and enforce consumer-related legislation and promote consumer awareness and education for consumers and businesses concerning their rights and responsibilities.

You will provide expert advice and interpretation on the legislation, exercise administrative decision-making responsibilities under the framework, provide guidance on the administration of operational requirements, and engage in liaison work and outreach with internal and external stakeholders, including members of the public, licensees and registrants, non-governmental and civil organizations, industry associations, and provincial and federal ministries.

Salary: $3,076.28 to $4,053.05 bi-weekly ($80,2901 to $105,785/year)
