Even with all the uncertainty surrounding what next summer will look like given the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the Calgary Stampede is continuing to plan for the 2021 show.

A release from the Stampede unveiling this year’s official poster also included some information about what next year’s Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth might look like, noting that organizers were in fact moving ahead with plans to host and that tickets are now on sale for the rodeo and evening shows.

“With the health and safety of our community a top priority, the Stampede is planning and preparing to adapt to all public health orders to safely welcome our community back to our annual celebration,” the November 17 release states.

The 2020 Calgary Stampede was cancelled just months prior to opening day, the result of strict lockdown measures that were put in place to quell the first wave of the pandemic.

Alberta’s coronavirus case numbers have since surpassed — and in many cases doubled — what the situation had been last spring. Still, Stampede organizers remain optimistic that next year’s show will be able to take place.

‘While we don’t have all the details about Stampede 2021 at this time, what we can tell you is that we are here for our community when they are ready to ride again. And when we can once again gather together to celebrate, it will be that much more meaningful,” said Steve McDonough, First Vice-Chairman of the Calgary Stampede Board of Directors, in the release.

Tickets can currently be purchased for the 2021 Calgary Stampede Rodeo and Evening Show online, which include admission to the Stampede Grounds for the entire day.

The release also notes that there are flexible and fully refundable options, just in case.

The 2021 Calgary Stampede is expected to be held from Friday, July 9 to Sunday, July 18.
