WestJet introduces brand-new way for Canadians to earn points

Great news for WestJet customers — the airline expanded its partnership with Virgin Atlantic, giving its members more ways to earn and redeem points across both carriers.

According to the company’s announcement, starting Tuesday, WestJet Rewards members can earn and use their points on Virgin Atlantic codeshare flights, including trips that connect through London to other destinations like the UAE, the Maldives, and South Africa. Earn points in your preferred program, whether you’re a WestJet Rewards or Virgin Atlantic Flying Club member.

The partnership with Virgin Atlantic is the first new reciprocal partnership for the airline in almost a decade.

Members can also continue using their points towards any WestJet codeshare flights operated by Virgin Atlantic. Those flights can now be booked via WestJet.com. Members can redeem their points on flights via London-Heathrow to several popular destinations such as Dubai, UAE; Malé, Maldives; Cape Town, South Africa; and Johannesburg, South Africa.

“Strengthening ties with a world-class airline like Virgin Atlantic has long delivered stronger connectivity for our guests. Today’s announcement builds on that foundation, unlocking greater value and expanded opportunities for WestJet Rewards members to engage with our loyalty program,” said John Weatherill, WestJet’s executive vice-president and chief commercial officer.

“By broadening the ways members can earn and redeem WestJet points, we are making it easier for guests to get even more value out of every journey with WestJet and Virgin Atlantic.”

The expanded rewards partnership is just one of several changes that WestJet has made to its rewards program.

Last year, the Calgary-based airline revamped its rewards program, including changing its rewards program’s currency and launching a new eStore that lets members earn more points through everyday purchases. The airline also recently introduced partnerships with Telus and food delivery company Skip the Dishes.
