Walmart+ launches in Canada, offering Amazon Prime-like perks for less

If you’re looking to simplify your weekly grocery run, Walmart+ has just launched in Canada, and it’s about $1 cheaper than a monthly Amazon Prime subscription.
On Thursday, Walmart Canada announced that its Walmart+ membership program is finally Canada, the first outside the U.S., where it launched in 2020. Monthly membership costs $8.97 per month or $89 annually, making it slightly cheaper than Amazon Prime, which costs $9.99 per month or $99 annually. And similar to Amazon Prime, it offers some pretty great delivery perks.
Members can skip the trip to the store, as they can get free same-day delivery on orders over $35. And if you need something fast, you can also save on Express Delivery, which arrives in two hours or less.
In addition, any orders placed on the Walmart app or Walmart.ca come with free shipping, with no minimum order required.
And here’s where the Amazon Prime comparison comes in.

Similar to Amazon’s Prime Video offering, Walmart+ members also get streaming benefits. The membership includes Crave standard with ads at no extra cost — a subscription that otherwise costs $11.99 per month. Members can stream shows from HBO or Max Originals, as well as select live sports broadcasts.
And if you’re a Delivery Pass member, it looks like Walmart has phased out the program, as existing members will automatically become Walmart+ members.
According to Walmart Canada, members will also continue to enjoy its “flexible and convenient pickup and delivery experience.” This includes the ability to add items to existing scheduled orders up to three hours before their pickup or delivery time, Express Delivery in two hours or less for a discounted fee, and free store pickup.
Canadians can sign up to try Walmart+ for free for 30 days.
Catherine Theberge-Conner, head of membership at Walmart Canada, calls it a “game-changer.”
“With Walmart+, Canadians can access a unique membership offering that combines unlimited grocery and general merchandise delivery with benefits beyond retail — all for only $89 per year,” she stated. “Canadians are going to love the level of convenience, assortment and value they get with Walmart+, with more to come.”
