Air Canada says there is 'no fuel shortage' affecting flights to major destination

Air Canada is reassuring flyers that the global fuel supply’s impact on flights to a major destination won’t affect travel.

In an email titled “Europe travel update, we’ve got you covered,” sent to customers on Tuesday, the airline addressed recent headlines about the global fuel supply, which has been impacted by the conflict between Iran and the United States.

It particularly commented on the impact on Air Canada flights to Europe, assuring that the carrier is “fully expecting to operate” its current summer schedule.

“While global fuel markets remain dynamic, Air Canada has a diversified and sophisticated fuel supply in place,” stated Mark Galardo, executive vice-president and CCO of Air Canada.

“There is no fuel shortage affecting our operations, including across Europe, and we do not anticipate any significant impact through the summer.”

The email includes a 25 per cent off offer on standard base fares to select Air Canada flights from Canada to Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

“As always, if there are any changes to the travel schedule, you’ll hear from us first, with clear options to support you throughout your travel journey,” added Galardo.

This comes after the airline announced the suspension of several flight routes in the last two months. As of May, Air Canada has suspended 11 flights — two domestic, two international, and seven between Canada and the U.S.

“This decision was made as a result of the current price of jet fuel. Affected customers will be contacted with alternate travel options, including the option of a full refund where applicable,” a spokesperson told Daily Hive in May.

In addition to these suspended flights, Air Canada has also increased its checked baggage fees for customers flying on Economy Basic, Standard, or Flex fares purchased on or after April 13, 2026. Daily Hive reported on how much more you’ll have to pay.

As of Monday, Aeroplan members also have to pay more points for tons of routes.
