If you’re a Mazda owner, you’ll want to check your vehicle following a Canada-wide recall of thousands of units.

On Sept. 2, Transport Canada announced the recall of certain Mazda vehicle models due to a safety issue. A total of 14,350 units are being recalled in Canada and 104,854 units in the U.S. The recall affects two types of Mazda SUVs: the 2025 CX-70 model and the 2024 and 2025 CX-90 models.

“On certain vehicles, an incorrect fuel level may be displayed on the instrument cluster,” reads the statement. “As a result, the driver may be unaware of how much fuel is in the tank, and the vehicle could run out of fuel and stall.”

This issue could pose a safety risk as the sudden loss of engine power could “increase the risk of a crash.” To reduce the risk, Mazda is advising drivers to refuel before the fuel gauge reaches the quarter level until repairs have been completed. Mazda said it’s reaching out to owners by mail and will provide details on taking affected vehicles to a dealer to “update the body control module software.”

To find out if your SUV is part of this recall, you can head to Mazda’s recall website and enter your 17-character Vehicle Identification Number (VIN), which contains information about your vehicle.

You can find your VIN on a sticker located in the driver’s side door jamb and at the base of the driver’s side windshield. You can also find it on your vehicle’s registration, financial services statement, or insurance statement.
