Two Canadian lottery winners are now walking on cloud nine after a stroll in their favourite mall ended with a seven-figure jackpot win.
Vancouver, B.C., residents Imelda and Ruben P. won a $1-million prize on the Lotto Max draw held on Jan. 9, 2026.
The couple learned of their huge win while going on their regular walk in the largest mall in British Columbia.
“We were at Metrotown when we first scanned the ticket,” said Imelda of the moment they learned they won. “We were both just so happy!”

Imelda and Ruben first shared the news with their daughter, who happened to walk by shortly after they learned of their windfall.
“We sat down to take a break, and then we saw our daughter walking by,” added Imelda. “Ruben whispered to her, ‘We won the lottery!’ Then she started crying.”
The Vancouver residents bought the winning ticket at the Shoppers Drug Mart in Metropolis at Metrotown in Burnaby.
Imelda and Ruben haven’t yet fully decided on what to do with their jackpot, but shared that they want to help their family.
When asked how it feels to win, they shared they are still thrilled by the news.
“We are really happy,” said Ruben.
