As if retirement wasn’t exciting enough, one Lotto Max player is starting this new chapter with a life-changing lottery win.
Despite playing Lotto Max, Geoffrey McCaul never expected that he’d actually win big. The 65-year-old from Whitby, Ont., has been a loyal lottery player, playing OLG games for about 30 years. His favourite games are Lotto Max and Lottario, which he plays using the Quick Pick feature to make his selections.
While at a gas station one day, McCaul decided to try his luck by buying a Lotto Max ticket for the Dec. 30, 2025, draw. At the time, the jackpot was worth $80 million, and there were several Maxmillions prizes to be won

One morning, after driving his wife to work, McCaul decided to check his ticket and was left stunned: he had one of three tickets that split a $1-million Maxmillions prize. That means his share was worth $333,333.40.
“I couldn’t believe it,” he said, while at the OLG Prize Centre to claim his winnings. “I’ve won smaller prizes over the years, but nothing this major!”
He immediately shared the news with his wife and said, “She kept saying, ‘No way!’ When we told the kids, they were so excited and happy.”
For McCaul, the timing couldn’t be more ideal.
“I’m retiring next month, so this win came at a good time. It feels surreal!” he said.

He said he’s not sure what he plans to do with his windfall yet, but the win means that he can make their next family trip extra special.
“One thing’s for sure — I plan to upgrade our seats when we fly to Australia to visit family!” he shared.
The winning ticket was purchased at Shell on Harwood Avenue North in Ajax.
The next Lotto Max draw is on Tuesday, Jan. 27, and the jackpot is worth $15 million.
