A Canadian couple is $15 million richer after discovering their Lotto Max ticket matched all seven numbers in a recent draw.
Kathleen Polyak, of Calgary, Alta., was in the bath when she first realized something was off after her partner flagged a possible win.
“Stu sent me a screenshot from a CTV article that said there was a $15-million winner in Calgary and asked me to check our tickets,” she explained. “I checked them and immediately asked him to meet me in the living room to check again with me. I thought I was mistaken!”
Her partner, Stuart Rudolph, says the couple has barely slept since confirming the big win.
“It’s been a rollercoaster,” said Polyak. The couple purchased their winning ticket using a Free Play they had won on a previous Lotto Max draw.
The pair already has quite a few plans on how to use the windfall, including travel, home upgrades, and paying off their mortgage.
“It’ll be such a relief to pay the mortgage and the bills completely and then look forward to our first holiday in a long time,” said Rudolph.
“Before you win, you have grandiose ideas of what you’ll do; now the reality is setting in that we need to be responsible and figure out what are the practical things we need. I’m excited to be able to go to my goddaughter’s wedding overseas in France,” Polyak continued.
Polyak and Rudolph purchased their winning ticket from Save-On Foods at 420 Na’a Plaza SW in Calgary.
