A lottery player in Western Canada says he is going to treat his new wife to some lavish items after becoming a millionaire in a draw this spring.

Bao Tran of Edmonton, Alta., was happy enough when he thought he’d won $100,000 on Lotto 6/49, but after he showed a friend his winning ticket, he realized he had actually won a crisp $1,000,000.

“I scanned [the ticket] in the store,” he explained to the Western Canada Lottery Corporation (WCLC) while claiming his prize. “I was very happy and I told my friend it was $100,000.”

“When I showed him, he looked closely and said, ‘No, this is $1 million!’” Tran laughed, adding that he hugged him upon learning of the correction.

Tran says that he is even more excited to surprise his new wife with the news.

“I just got married in Vietnam, and I’m going to surprise my wife by purchasing a house and a new car for her,” he said.

“I was happy with the $100,000. Now, I feel very happy.”

Tran purchased his winning Lotto 6/49 ticket from Hughes at 12405 97th St. in Edmonton. He won his prize by matching the selection in the May 21 Gold Ball draw: 36342785-01, a White Ball.
