Ontario parents received a gift of a lifetime from their daughter, who unknowingly blessed them with a major lottery prize.
Mississauga residents Carlos and Francisca Fuentes are rejoicing after winning a Lotto 6/49 second prize worth $57,924.90 in the June 25 draw.
The married parents of four and grandparents of eight enjoy playing the lottery as a team. Carlos has been a loyal lottery player since the days of Wintario, while Francisca occasionally picks up a ticket.

“Our daughter gave us this ticket as a gift,” they shared with the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation. That lucky ticket led them to their first big win.
“We were on our way to an appointment when we scanned our ticket using the OLG app,” recalled the duo while visiting the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto to collect their winnings.
“At first, we thought we’d won $57. When we realized it was more than $57,000, excitement filled the car. We were so shocked and couldn’t believe it. We didn’t tell anyone until we could confirm it for sure.”
Carlos and Francisca went to a store to double-check their lottery ticket using the ticket checker.
“Once we knew the win was real, we shared the news with our close family. The kids couldn’t believe it,” they said, smiling. “They were thrilled for us both.”
The couple have fun plans for their lottery windfall. They want to treat themselves to a trip to Italy next year.
“We’ll also be helping out our grandkids with some of their finances as they prepare for university,” they added.
When asked what it’s like to win the lottery, the couple said, “It feels very good. We feel so happy and blessed to have won this prize.”
Carlos and Francisca’s daughter bought the winning lottery ticket at Esso/Circle K on Highway 27 in Vaughan.
