An Ontario couple say their lottery win was years in the making.
Moffat residents Shawn and Nancy Lyons won “Ontario’s jackpot” â $760,178.70 in the March 29 Lottario draw.
The married couple, who run a family-owned business, have played the lottery together for over 30 years. Throughout this time, they’ve played a variety of jackpot and Instant games, believing that one day they’d win big.
Little did they know that a Lottario Free Play prize would lead the parents of three and grandparents of three to their amazing jackpot win.
âIt was the day of our daughterâs wedding shower, and my son and I were outside in the parking lot. I was checking my tickets using the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG) app on my phone when I got to the last one â a Lottario Free Play,â Shawn recounted, as he and Nancy visited the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto.

When he saw the winning message, he initially thought he’d won only $760. He then showed the message to his son.
“He said, âOMG! You won $760,000!â We were both so excited! We laughed and did a little happy dance before heading inside to share the incredible news with Nancy,” he said.
Shawn took a suspicious Nancy outside to share the news.
âWhen I showed her the screenshot of the winning message, she thought it was an April Foolâs joke,” recounted Shawn. “Seeing my sonâs flushed face and wide grin, she realized it was real. She was thrilled and amazed.”
Nancy is convinced Shawn manifested their windfall.
âShawn always talks about the lottery and has always felt weâd win one day,â she explained.
This lottery win isn’t their first time visiting the OLG Prize Centre.
âBack in 2009, we celebrated New Yearâs Eve in Toronto. We stopped to take a picture in front of the OLG Prize Centre, hoping to return one day with a winning ticket,â Shawn added. âI printed that picture, and itâs been hanging in our bedroom ever since. Now, here we are!â
The couple are overflowing with emotions.
âOne minute youâre laughing, and the next, youâre overwhelmed. Itâs very exciting, as this win gives us the opportunity to help our children and our grandchildren,” they said.
Shawn and Nancy also plan to use their lottery win to pay off their mortgage, complete some renovations, and invest in their retirement.
If you feel like you’ve manifested a future lottery win, check your Lotto 6/49 ticket from Wednesday’s draw. Someone in Canada is taking home a whopping $60 million.
