An Ontario teenager just did something that adults four times his age continue to dream of: winning the lottery.

Monkton resident Cash Goodyer is celebrating his first huge win of $900,000 with the Bigger Spin Instant game.

The 18-year-old skilled trades worker said he has bought a few lottery tickets since turning 18, inspired by other big winners.

“I saw videos of Bigger Spin events on Instagram and that’s why I started buying tickets for this game,” he shared while at the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG) Prize Centre, preparing for his Bigger Spin event.

Goodyer said he had won an in-store Spin on his lottery ticket, but was expecting a small prize of $10 or $20.

“When the store clerk started freaking out, I had no idea what was happening. They told me someone from OLG was going to call me, and I couldn’t believe it,” he recounted.

The young lottery winner broke the amazing news to his family.

“That helped me believe it was real,” he explained. “I couldn’t sleep last night – I was so excited to be coming here!”

Goodyer proudly wore his Johnny Cash T-shirt to the Big Spin event. He shared that he was named after the music legend, and it’s a fitting name given the amount of cash he was about to win.

“The wheel was heavier than I thought it would be,” he said. “When it lingered on $500,000, I held my breath. I heard the cheers in the crowd and watched the wheel shift to $900,000. I was shocked! What an incredible moment!”

Goodyer expressed that he is grateful he got to share this experience with his family.

“What an amazing day,” he beamed. “I feel awesome. This win is a chance for me to have an incredible head start at this time in my life.”

The 18-year-old has big plans for his lottery windfall. He wants to invest, purchase a home, and treat himself to some outdoor toys or a fun trip.

Goodyer bought his lucky ticket at Listowel Variety Store on Argyle Avenue North in Listowel.
