If you know Bernard Brian Woodsworth, then you probably heard it here first — he won a life-changing lottery prize.
The Carp, Ont., resident is $5 million richer after nabbing the top prize with Instant Extreme.
Woodsworth has been playing with the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG) for about 50 years and has never hit the jackpot like this.

OLG
“I played my ticket at home and I realized the numbers matched for the $5-million prize. I checked it using the OLG app, but thought I should wait to get excited until the cheque was in my hands,” he shared while at the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto to claim his windfall.
According to the OLG, the 69-year-old hadn’t told anyone about his huge lottery win as of Monday, Oct. 6.
Woodsworth has big plans for his prize money.
“I plan to make a real difference in my life,” he said. “I’m going to help my mom move to a retirement home, pay some bills, and take a trip to Scotland and England — places I’ve always wanted to see.”
He bought the winning lottery ticket at Esso/On the Run on Terry Fox Drive in Kanata.
Woodsworth isn’t the only player who has kept their win a secret.
In June, a Canadian landscaper managed to keep his huge lottery win a secret at his surprise birthday party. He managed to keep it under wraps until after the party, when he told his son about the winning ticket.
“He was amazed and delighted. Later on, I shared the news with some other family members as well. Everyone was just thrilled for me!” said Tan.
A building operator had a similar thought process as Woodsworth. He won a hefty lottery prize, but decided to keep it a secret from his family because he wanted to surprise them once he had the cheque in his hands.
