Canadian keeps big lottery win a secret from his family
A lottery player from Ontario is waiting for the perfect time to share his major win with his family.
Toronto resident Cezar Corbillon is celebrating after winning an Ontario 49 second prize worth $50,000 in the July 17, 2024, draw.
The building operator has been playing the lottery with the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG) for more than 15 years.

He likes playing Ontario 49, Lotto 6/49, Lotto Max, and Pick 3, always says “yes” to Encore and chooses his own numbers.
While Corbillon has enjoyed some smaller wins over the years, this is his first big win.
âWhen I purchased my Ontario 49 ticket, I placed it in my wallet and went about my day,â he recalled while visiting the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto to pick up his lottery windfall.
After the draw, he used the store’s ticket checker to see how he did.
“When I realized it was a winning ticket, I quietly tucked my ticket back into my wallet. I was happy on the inside and couldnât hold back the smile on my face,” said Corbillon.
Until Monday, when the OLG released his story, he still hadn’t told anyone about his lottery win.
“It was a secret between me and the ticket checker,â Corbillon laughed.
âI look forward to surprising my family once I receive my cheque,â he concluded with a smile. The building operator plans to pay some bills with the win.
He bought his winning lottery ticket at Harringtonâs Convenience on Milner Avenue in Scarborough.
One lottery player from Montreal had a different reaction to her win at her go-to grocery store. Instead of keeping it to herself like Corbillon, Chantal Bolduc celebrated out loud.
âThe clerk asked me if I knew. So I answered, âDid I know what?â And then, he said, âYou won $1 million with Extra!ââ Bolduc told Loto-QuĂ©bec.
Her first reaction was to hug the clerk.
âI felt like I was in a dream!â she said when claiming her prize.
