Lucky Canadian now has two hefty lottery wins under his belt

A Canadian man couldn’t believe his luck after beating the odds with a second lottery win.

Robert Dormiedy is a retiree who lives in Ajax, Ont. A regular lottery player, he has been buying tickets for decades, opting to play Lotto Max, Lotto 6/49, Lottario, and Ontario 49, and using the Quick Pick feature to choose his numbers.

Dormiedy celebrated his first win of $184,625 with Lotto 6/49 in 2013. And while even a single win is impressive enough, his fortune shone again over a decade later with a second lottery win — one that almost didn’t happen due to poor weather.

“I almost didn’t pick up a ticket for this draw,” he admitted. “It was a snowy day, and I didn’t want to go out to the store, but thankfully I did.”

The morning after the draw, he went to the kitchen and checked his ticket using his phone.

“I scanned it using the OLG app and saw the ‘Big Winner’ message,” he said. “I was so happy, as was my wife, who was there with me.”

Dormiedy was shocked that he had won a $50,000 prize in the Lotto 6/49 Super Draw on Feb. 15.

While at the OLG Prize Centre to claim his lottery prize, the two-time winner said, “Being a winner feels great. I couldn’t be more surprised or happy.”

Dormiedy said he’ll be using his windfall to complete some renovations.

The next Lotto 6/49 draw is on Wednesday, March 12, and the Gold Ball prize is worth $28 million.
