A childcare worker from Ontario had a whirlwind lottery experience after a huge lottery scratch ticket win.

Lanark resident Catherine Cole is celebrating after winning a $500,000 top prize with Instant Plinko.

She’s been playing Instant games with the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG) for a couple of years. The winning lottery scratch ticket she chose was the last of its kind in the store’s display.

Cole was in disbelief when she discovered she would soon be heading to the OLG Prize Centre to drop a Plinko Chip.

ā€œWhen I won a Chip prize on my ticket and had it validated at the store, I was expecting to win $10 or $20,ā€ she said while visiting the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto. “When the animated chip landed on Plinko, I froze, and my brain was fuzzy with shock.”

Cole recalls the clerk confirming that she’d won the Plinko event. She was so excited she called her husband to join her at the store.

“We cheered and honked the whole drive home,ā€ she said.

Cole got to play the lottery game IRL at the OLG Prize Centre. As she dropped her Chip down the Plinko board, she was filled with hope and gratitude.

ā€œWhen the Chip landed, the crowd in the room started to cheer, but I couldn’t see anything and had no idea how much I’d won,ā€ she recounted. ā€œHearing the announcement that I’d won $500,000 was such an unreal experience! I was shocked and so happy — it was more than I’d hoped for.ā€

Cole says she’s grateful for the experience, which has been a first for her, adding that the most she’s ever won playing the lottery was $100.

ā€œI feel so blessed,ā€ she said. ā€œThis money will be invested and put toward building the dream home we’ve been saving for. Our dream will soon become our reality.”

Cole bought the winning ticket at Pretty Goods Groceries on George Street in Lanark.
