Canadian an instant millionaire after weekend lottery win
One Canadian lottery player will soon take home a $1 million prize after winning big during the weekend draw.
The Lotto 6/49 draw took place on Saturday, Jan. 3, and one lucky lottery player will take home the White Ball prize worth $1 million after matching the winning number 36454770-01. According to WCLC, the winning ticket was sold in Winnipeg, M.B. At the time, the Gold Ball prize was worth $16 million.
Although no one won the $5 million Classic Draw prize, two lottery players who purchased their tickets from Ontario managed to win the second prize. After splitting their winnings, they’ll each take home a prize worth $77,976.50.
A total of 82 people won the third prize, with each receiving their share worth 798.60. In B.C., no one won the $500,000 Classic Draw Extra prize, while in Ontario, no one won the $1 million Encore prize.
The last time someone won the Lotto 6/49 Gold Ball prize was on Dec. 20, 2025, when a winner from Quesnel, B.C., matched the winning numbers 12706438-43. The prize was worth $46 million.
The next draw is on Wednesday, Jan. 7, and the Gold Ball prize is worth $18 million.

The winning Lotto Max numbers for the Friday, Jan. 2 draw were 05, 09, 11, 22, 30, 41, and 43, with bonus 49. No one won the $46 million jackpot; however, two people came pretty close after they matched six of the seven winning numbers and the bonus number. According to PlayNow, both tickets were sold in Ontario. Each winner will take home a prize worth $115,308.20.
A total of 50 Canadians won the third prize and will each receive $4,612.30. No one in B.C. won the $500,000 prize. In Ontario, no one won the $1 million Encore prize.
The last time someone won the Lotto Max jackpot was on Tuesday, Dec. 30, when someone from London, Ont., matched the winning numbers 05, 21, 32, 38, 43, 44, and 45, to score an astounding $80 million prize.
The next draw is on Tuesday, Jan. 6, and the jackpot is worth $50 million.
