More than 20 Canadian brands we're loving for the new year

Shopping Canadian is top of mind for many of us going into the new year.

With so many fabulous homegrown brands, truthfully, there’s little reason not to. From some of our fave clothing brands to candles, furniture, and everything in between, we’ve rounded up some of the best brands that call Canada home.

Hetta

Hetta is a new brand from Sundays.

Founded by Vancouverite Barbora Samieian and her partners, Hetta is a completely new line from the Sundays family. With a more rustic, traditional take on furniture than the more modern, west coast-inspired sister brand, Hetta has quickly taken over our home design inspo board.

We’re loving the wood side table, velvet modular sectionals, and convenient storage beds to maximize small spaces.

Huha

Huha’s new Morning Rose floral print.

Vancouver’s Alexa Suter founded Huha after spotting a gap in the market for underwear that was actually good for you.

The brand specializes in zinc-infused undies, which are antimicrobial, promoting better pH health and helping keep infections at bay. Tencel-infused fabrics also keep these ultra-comfy.

Silk & Snow

Silk & Snow’s sheets and bedding.

Comfy bedsheets are a non-negotiable when it comes to a good night’s sleep. Toronto-founded Silk & Snow sources all of its bedsheets from Portugal to ensure the highest quality fabrics, ranging from flax linen to percale, Egyptian cotton, and more.

The line also has great bathroom essentials, including plush terry and Turkish towels, as well as cozy robes.

Herschel

Herschel’s latest collaboration with Heinz.

Vancouver-founded Herschel has been a global staple for some time. The timeless backpacks and duffle bags not only look elevated, but hold up on the quality end, too. While the brand is known for its staples, it’s also dabbled in some fun collaborations.

Most recently, Herschel dropped a bright red Heinz luggage set (as in, the ketchup brand) that’ll be hard to miss on a post-flight carousel. Don’t skip over Herschel’s apparel line: its rain jacket is a solid addition to a jacket lineup.

Nudestix

Nudestix is known for its magnetic eye pencils.

We’ve been big fans of Nudestix since the brand launched back in 2014. The easy-to-use magnetic eye pencils and blendable formulas from Toronto sisters Taylor and Ally Frankel (whose mom is a former MAC Cosmetics chemist) have kept this brand a staple for the last decade.

Beyond the shimmery shadow sticks and concealers, the line’s skincare collection also has some winners like the Citrus Clean Balm & Makeup Melt.

Aldo

Aldo’s winter shoe collection is full of classic styles.

Montreal-founded Aldo has had a serious glow-up in the last few years (read: the uncomfortable shoe era is over).

We’re drooling over its fall boot selection, particularly anything in chocolate brown. Aldo’s loafer and sandal collection is also full of stylish runway dupes, meaning you can get the look without breaking the bank.

Sangre de Fruta

Gwyneth Paltrow’s Goop is even a lover of this luxe line. Made in small batches on Bowen Island, there’s simply no better body care line out there. The Botanical Hand Wash and paired with the Hand and Body Lotion is the ultimate bathroom counter accessory, but our all-time fave is the Botanical Body Cream.

Sangre de Fruta is made in small batches on Bowen Island.

Olive & Piper

Olive & Piper recently launched the convertible earring.

Vancouver’s Olive & Piper has cornered the sparkly jewellery market for a while, thanks to its pretty, Instagram-worthy pieces that make for excellent wardrobe staples.

The line recently launched its chic convertible drop earrings, allowing you to design exactly what you want. With up to 74 mix-and-match combos, options are endless. Styles easily transition from day to night by just adding a charm or two, or switching them out for something bolder.

Four Seasons

Four Seasons now sells its resort robes.

The best hotel brand in the world just happens to be from Toronto, Ont. Bring a slice of Four Seasons home with the brand’s ultra-indulgent home collection.

The line naturally includes pillows, mattresses and sheets, but we’re particularly eyeing the silk pyjama sets and spa robes as Valentine’s Day gifts.

La Vie En Rose

The lounge collection from La Vie En Rose.

La Vie En Rose has been a lingerie staple in Canada since 1985. While there’s no shortage of sexier pieces, there’s plenty of other cozy staples like daily undies, slippers, pyjamas, and robes.

We’re particularly vibing the knit lounge collection, which includes sweaters that can be worn at home or out and about. The retailer has also been known for its quality swimwear, with a mix of one pieces, bikinis and cover-ups perfect for your next vacation.

Milk Jar

Milk Jar’s maple dip candle.

Canada is home to so many great candle companies, but our favourite right now has to be Calgary’s Milk Jar. The company makes several unique scents, including Fresh Laundry, Lemonade and the truly Canadian Maple Dip — truly, there’s something for everyone.

We especially love that they’re all-natural coconut soy with a wooden wick (perfect for that crisp crackling sound).

Jane The Brand

Jane the Brand makes various bag charms.

This local Vancouver company is right on trend when it comes to bag charms. The company makes everything from quirky and kitschy accessories to charming, classic ones: the ketchup and fry charm is guaranteed to bring a chuckle, while the pearl bow is the perfect addition to a classic girl’s wardrobe.

The line also makes more personalized ones, including initials and zodiac signs.

Roots

The Canada Collection from Roots.

Roots sweatsuits are the unofficial Canadian uniform coast-to-coast. The iconic salt and pepper sets simply never go out of style, but we’re also into some of the newer nostalgic-inspired sets like the retro Canada Collection.

For a more modern look, the Cloud Collection is also casual chic with both crewneck and half zip sweatshirt options.

Dynamite

Elsa Hosk is the face of Dynamite’s latest campaign.

Dynamite has had a major glow-up in recent years, which elevated styles that’ll have you doing a double-take. The brand, which was founded in Montreal back in 1984, is particularly slaying with some of its partnerships, including a recent one with model Elsa Hosk.

The dress collection and denim lines are both worth checking out in-store and online.

Sunday Littles

Sunday Littles makes pyjamas for the whole family.

Cozy pyjamas are a winter must. B.C.-Based Sunday Littles makes its sets from its own signature CloudLuxe bamboo fabric that’s both breathable and ultra-soft, almost guaranteeing a good night’s sleep.

For the parents, we especially love the matching kid-sized sets for a picture-perfect moment.

Vitruvi

Vitruvi’s cloud humidifier.

Luxury home brand Vitruvi has made big waves outside of its iconic diffusers and essential oils. The Vancouver-founded brand introduced the stylish and effective Cloud Humidifier to its collection, which provides a cool mist to keep your skin and hair hydrated, but also helps support a good night’s sleep.

The home accessory pairs perfectly with its stone diffuser — just add any oil blend you like.

Aritzia

Aritzia’s SuperPuff now comes in an array of styles and colours, including the new Chocolate Mousse.

A tried and true favourite for a reason. The Vancouver-founded company, which also celebrated its milestone 40th birthday last year, has doubled down on some of its staples like the Super Puff (which now comes in a plethora of spinoff styles and colours) and cozy Sweetfleece.

Beyond the casualwear, Aritzia still slays on the suiting, particularly the blazers.

Ollie Quinn

Ollie Quinn is known for optical frames.

For those of us who wear glasses, a stylish pair of specs is a wardrobe must-have. Vancouver-born Ollie Quinn delivers on the perfect mix of frames that can have you looking fresh off the runway, or ones that are just modern enough but don’t have you looking too trendy.

The brand also offers plenty of options for sunglasses, including prescription options.

Mejuri

Jewellery by Mejuri.

Mejuri dubs itself “fine jewellery for every day.” The celebrity-loved brand (fans include Taylor Swift and bff Selena Gomez) actually hails from Toronto, and has had several viral styles in recent years, including the now-classic croissant ring.

There’s something for everyone in Mejuri’s line, from subtle to bold earrings, stackable rings, bracelets and even diamonds, all at an attainable price point. Best of all, the items will stand the test of time due to being made of gold, sterling silver and other quality materials.

House iD

House iD and Holt Renfrew collaborated on a limited edition crewneck.

The spin-off athleisure brand of fitness and wellness studio House Concepts is meant to be worn in and out of the gym. We love the sleek, neutral styles, especially the fit of the leggings and bike shorts.

The Vancouver-founded brand doubled down on its Canadian roots this winter with a limited-edition Holt Renfrew collaboration, dropping the gray and hot pink House x Holts unisex crewneck.

MIFA and Co.

MIFA and Co.’s eucalyptus body wash.

We’ve been religiously using MIFA & Co.’s eucalyptus body and hand wash since the pandemic, and it’s been a shower staple since.

The Canadian brand, founded by two besties, has rounded out its spa-inspired offerings over the years, and there’s been no misses: we love the luxurious body oil and mood mist for the perfect mid-day boost.

Monos

Monos’ new luggage collaboration with Simon Miller.

Truly the best carry-on luggage we’ve ever used. The Carry-On Pro Plus from Vancouver-based Monos is one of those, “once you try it, you’re never going back.”

The brand has also dropped some ultra-cool collabs as of late, including a bold blue and green collection with clothing brand Simon Miller. Beyond its luggage lines, Monos has also ventured into apparel with the perfect capsule wardrobe for an avid traveller.
