After discovering that he had won a massive lottery prize, one Canadian man was met with an unexpected request from his wife.
Cameron Lambert is a builder from Bracebridge, Ont., who has been playing the lottery for years. He said he’s a loyal fan of Lotto 6/49 and Lotto Max, always choosing to add Encore to his tickets. He also uses OLG’s Quick Pick feature to select his numbers.
“It was a regular day when I stopped by the store to pick up a ticket,” Lambert recalled. “The next morning, I checked my ticket using the OLG app on my phone. When I scanned it, a bunch of zeroes appeared.”
He thought something was wrong with the app, so he tried scanning his ticket again. That’s when he realized that he had won the Encore top prize in the May 10 Lotto 6/49 draw.
“That’s when I realized I’d won $1 million!” he said. “I was so shocked and excited that I started shaking as I stared at the screen.”
Lambert’s wife was with him when he found out about his big win.
“I turned to her and said, ‘I just won $1 million!’ She thought I was kidding around,” he said with a chuckle. “When she realized I was serious, she shouted, ‘You really did win $1 million!'”

Like his wife, his children needed a little convincing that he did indeed win $1 million.
“When they finally accepted it was true, they were thrilled. I also told most of my work friends, and they all congratulated me,” he said.
The day he found out Lambert had discovered his win was even more special because it was Mother’s Day.
“I asked my wife what she wanted as a gift,” he said with a smile. “She said, ‘Go validate the ticket. That’s my gift.'”
While at the OLG Prize Centre to claim his prize, Lambert shared that he plans to invest his $1-million windfall and use it to travel.
“Being a winner feels surreal — it’s truly life-changing,” he shared. “This prize will make a big difference for our future and has really changed my perspective on what’s ahead.”
The winning ticket was purchased at Circle K on Wellington Street in Bracebridge.
