Two Canadian politicians got the spotlight on the hit trivia show Jeopardy!, although the question proved a stumper for the contestants.

The mention came during the Tuesday, July 8, episode of the long-running game show, which was airing game 217 of season 41.

Contestant Elise Canup selected the category “That’s Honorific,” and the $400 question highlighted Brenda Locke, mayor of Surrey, B.C., and Scott Gillingham, mayor of Winnipeg, Man.

The question read, “In Canada, His or Her Worship is for people with this government job, like Scott Gillingham of Winnipeg and Surrey, B.C.’s Brenda Locke.”

Two contestants, Dan Puma and Scott Riccardi, ventured incorrect guesses. Riccardi asked, “What is MP?” and Puma buzzed in with, “What is minister?”

Host Ken Jennings explained, “Those are the respective mayors of Winnipeg and Surrey.”

Locke shared her excitement on social media with her followers.

“It’s not every day that you see your name on Jeopardy!,” she wrote on X and Instagram. “I never would’ve imagined I would be featured in a clue. Pretty cool!”

Gillingham also posted a clip of his Jeopardy! question on social media, claiming that it was a “fun surprise to be featured.”

Jeopardy!

It’s not the first time that Canada has been mentioned on Jeopardy. Toronto Blue Jays’ Rogers Centre and Calgary’s Olympic history and cold temperatures stumped contestants, while Canadians were left screaming at their screens when no one knew the answer to “This Ontario rocker ruled the ’80s with hits like ‘Cuts Like a Knife.’”

Vancouver even got its own Jeopardy! category once, but how hard you think the answers were may vary.
