A Canadian lottery winner is celebrating a life-changing jackpot after recently claiming a $31 million Lotto Max prize, but it took some time for his partner to believe in the windfall.
It’s understandable, as Kelowna, B.C., resident Ingo Abresch was left in disbelief himself when he learned that he won on the Lotto Max draw held on Sept. 23, 2025, with a ticket he bought on BCLC’s PlayNow.com.
Abresch was left stunned when he found out the good news at work.

“I looked at my account and saw a big number in the right corner,” said Abresch in a release.
“I clicked on the ticket, and the song rang. I was dumbfounded. There were lots of zeros.”
The first person that the lottery winner called about his jackpot was his partner, but she was hesitant to believe him at first.
“(She) was hugely skeptical about it,” shared Abresch. “Even when I phoned her, she had to ask who was calling – she thought it was a scam.”
The $31 million lotto win is still surreal and unbelievable to the B.C. resident, who said that while it won’t change his lifestyle, it will help make retirement easier.
However, he revealed that he’s planning on taking a few more trips and not worrying when dining out in the future.
