There are actually a surprising number of private islands that cost less than an average home in Canada, but this time, we couldn’t resist doing a little online shopping with the price filter set to “high to low.”
According to Private Islands Inc., a global marketplace for private island sales and rentals, there are hundreds of private islands listed across Canada. And one of the most expensive currently on the market happens to be slightly shaped like a heart when looking at aerial shots of the property.
Goffatt Island is a nearly 12-acre private island on Lake Simcoe, near Orillia, Ontario.

The property comes with something a little unusual: a 0.36-acre piece of mainland property at 4739 Cedar Point Lane. Basically, it gives you a spot on the mainland to park and store things before you head over to the island. That parcel includes a one-car garage, an outhouse and designated parking for other guests.
As for the island itself, it’s so much more than just a spot for a cottage.
The listing states the main property has 13 bedrooms, an auditorium, fully operational restaurant facilities, an indoor kitchen and dining room, and banquet halls, meaning it could also work as a corporate retreat (hello billionaire CEOs!), event venue or other large-scale gathering space.

It offers panoramic views of Lake Simcoe, while the buildings’ structures, dating from between the 1920s and 1950s, blend historic charm and modern-day functionality.
Ontario must have a thing for hearts, as the private island is in the same province where you’ll find the aptly-named Heart Lake near the town of Ompah.
According to Private Islands Inc., it’s currently listed for US$12 million, which works out to roughly C$16.7 million at today’s exchange rate.
