Canadian lottery player woke up $44 million richer this weekend
The weekend brought some seriously good news for one lottery player in Canada who’s now celebrating a huge win.
The lucky player hit the jackpot in the latest lottery draw, turning a regular lottery ticket into a life-changing win. The Lotto 6/49 draw took place on Saturday, Aug. 8, and the Gold Ball jackpot winning numbers were 23202513-03. According to WCLC, the ticket was sold in Saskatoon, Sask.
The winner wasn’t the only brand-new multimillionaire over the weekend.
Someone in B.C. managed to match the six Classic Draw winning numbers 3, 7, 18, 24, 45, and 48, with bonus number 29. According to PlayNow, the ticket was purchased in the municipality of Chemainus on Vancouver Island. The lottery player is now $5 million richer.
Two people — one in Ontario, another in Quebec — will split the Classic Draw second prize after they matched five of the six numbers and the bonus number. Each of them will walk away with a share worth $86,975.20.
The third prize will be shared among 97 winners who’ll each receive $753 after they matched five of the six numbers.
In B.C., no one won the $500,000 Classic Draw Extra Prize; however, in Ontario, someone is now $1 million richer after they matched the Encore numbers 8770226.
The last time someone else scored a Lotto 6/49 jackpot was on June 6, when Bradley V., a 47-year-old father and financial planner, scored the $12-million prize.
The next Lotto 6/49 draw is on Wednesday, Aug. 12, and the Gold Ball Prize is worth $10 million.

The Lotto Max draw took place on Friday, Aug. 5, but no one won the $25-million jackpot. Two Ontario lottery players who matched six of the seven numbers and the bonus number will split the second prize. Each one will receive $72,461.50. The third prize will be shared between 20 people, who’ll get to take home $7,383.20 each.
There were 25 Maxplus prizes to be won, each worth $10,000, and two Canadians managed to win a prize. The tickets were sold in Quebec and Caraquet, N.B.
No one in B.C. won the $1-million Extra Prize, and similarly in Ontario, no one scored the $1-million Encore prize.
The last time someone won the Lotto Max top prize was on July 24, and the winner scored a $25-million jackpot.
The next draw is on Tuesday, Aug. 11, and the prize is worth $30 million.
